Spruce Avenue Community League
Sometimes deserving projects never get off the ground because of a lack of funding or human resources. Fortunately for the children in Spruce Avenue that is not going to be the case for the planned playground and park revitalization. Dedicated volunteers from the Spruce Avenue Community League, Spruce Avenue Elementary, St. Basils Elementary, and the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital have all worked together, pooling limited resources to make a green space that will serve the whole community.
They were able to receive funding from the Goverment of Alberta's Community Faciilities Enhancement Program. Combining this grant with monies they raised on their own, they'll begin construction and finally see their vision realized.
I had the great pleasure to be able to introduce in the Legislature some of the amazing people who were instrumental to the success of this project. They refused to take 'no' for an answer and should be held up as examples of what can be accomplished when different community groups work together for the common good.
Please listen to my Members Statement on the project which I gave December 7, 2011. http://youtu.be/TAB7zyHmhGE
